Q. What kind of shape do I need to be in to enjoy my trip?
A. You’ll get the most enjoyment out of your active adventure if you are reasonably fit. Don’t worry though; we are not Tour de France or triathlon participants. We’re just average folk who like to ride. As a rule of thumb; if you can ride 50 kms (32 miles) per day you can do our rides just fine. Remember, this isn’t a race; we like to stop and smell the flowers and enjoy the scenery. If you are at all concerned call our office and one of our support staff can help you with your questions.
Q. How should I train for my Biking trip?
A. The best training is to get out and ride—hills and flats—several hours at a time on consecutive days. The key is to just do it—and want to do it again the next day.
Q. How long will we be active each day?
A. Typically we average about five hours of riding each day, with lots of stop in between.
Q. How do your leaders support the biking routes?
A. On biking trips, one leader drives the support van, sweeping the route several times during the day and providing lifts and assistance as needed. Another leader rides the route, roving between groups traveling at different speeds.
Q. Do I have to carry any of my own luggage or gear?
A. The leaders transport all luggage between hotels in the CycleTreks support van. They’ll also gladly pick up and transport any purchases you make along the way. You need only carry snacks, clothing and personal items for the day’s activities.
Q. Who travels with CycleTreks?
A. The average age of our riders is between 45 and 60. Older and younger travelers are also well represented. Depending on your trip, you may meet solo travelers, families and couples. They’ll exhibit a diversity of interests and occupations and share a love of active travel and the outdoors.
Q. How large will my group be?
A. The maximum group size on all CycleTreks trips is 12.
Q. Are children welcome on all CycleTreks trips?
A. We don’t have any family specific rides but children are welcome. We leave it up to the parents to decide if the route is suitable for their children. We recommend that you talk to us to select the best trip for your family (call us at 1-250-386-3147).
Q. If I’m traveling alone, will you find me a roommate or can I have a private room?
A. CycleTreks will endeavor to find a roommate (same gender) for those single travelers who wish to share a room. The 50% deposit that is due at the time of booking will be based on the Single Occupancy rate. Should a roommate be found prior the final payment (30 days before), the balance due will be based on the double occupancy rate. If at 30 days prior to departure no roommate is available, the Single Occupancy charge will apply. If a roommate is found within 30 days, the single room charge will be refunded.
Q. Should I bring my own bike?
A. Included in your trip price is a high-quality, Rocky Mountain hybrid bike for use and enjoyment. We recommend using our bikes but if you prefer to bring your own a hybrid is strongly recommended. Some of the roads and trials we ride are not suitable for road bikes. If you choose to bring your own bike, your Trip Consultant can offer tips on the best ways to ship it to the trip start.
Q. How far in advance do I need to reserve my vacation?
A. The farther in advance you book, the greater availability of dates you’ll find. We recommend reserving at least four to six months before the trip you’re interested in departs.
Q. Can I reserve my CycleTreks vacation with my travel agent?
A. Yes, CycleTreks accepts reservations from professional travel agents. If you prefer to have your travel agent handle your CycleTreks booking, please have him or her contact us directly. Pricing is the same whether you book directly with CycleTreks or with your travel agent.
Q. How do I sign up for my CycleTreks trip? How much of a deposit is required?
A. To sign up for a CycleTreks trip, call 1-250-386-3147 and ask to speak to one of our bike specialists. You can also reserve your trip with our secure online reservation form. Just click the Book Now button on any page. The deposit per person is 50% of the trip cost. Deposits may be made by cheque or major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or American Express). Q. What is CycleTreks’ guarantee policy?
A. CycleTreks is not responsible for expenses that are incurred in preparation for any cancelled trips, such as airline tickets, or for costs that are incurred due to travel delays, flight cancellations or illness.
